Duncan Bannatyne takes to Twitter to ramp up Caan row | Metro.co.uk

The battle of the businessmen kicked off when Bannatyne wrote a Daily Telegraph article deeming it “unfair” that private equity boss James Caan could enjoy the tax privileges that come with his “non-domicile” status.

Caan countered via an interview with the Evening Standard: “I do not apologise for my country of origin, Pakistan.”

He also threw in a dig at his Scottish nemesis by declaring he couldn’t invest with anyone in possession of a criminal record (Bannatyne served six months in Colchester military prison when he was a teenager in the Royal Navy).

Bannatyne has now accused Caan of playing the race card and “personalising” the feud, having pointed out that his fellow dragon is chairman of the Big Issue (which employs individuals with criminal pasts).

The two millionaires already hold three joint Dragon investments, with sceptics now lining up to raise an eyebrow at the niftily timed public spat between the pair.
